Short Term Contracts
Unfortunately, we are unable to help you find work for a shorter-term than 12 months. The E2 work visa for teaching English is only ever issued for a 12-month period. There are no visas available for a lesser period. If you are only intending to work for 2-9 months and then leave Korea, you would have to find a school that opts to let you work for this shorter time and then correctly release you (with the correct paperwork) at the end of that time. BUT you would still have to have a 12 month visa stamp in your passport.

The employer would possibly not pay for your air ticket to Korea if you are working less than 6 months, and definitely will not pay for any return ticket unless you complete 12 months.

You would not qualify for the severance pay when you finish as it is only applicable after 12 full months work with no pro-rate of this.

To be honest if you do find an employer who will accept you working for only 2-9 months you will not be in a very high position to bargain for high pay and strong conditions as someone staying 12 months would be, as the employer would definitely have the cheaper option of taking someone for 12 months. The process costs the employer for processing the visa. Most employers are not keen to do 2-3 visa processes over 12 months, upset student classes, and bear the costs involved if they can appoint a 12 month person instead.

There are NO other visas available for you to legally teach English for less than 12 months. A short term ?contract work visa for 3 months or less? does exist for specific short term activities such as a modelling, sports coaching etc. but there is nothing for teaching English at a school or private tuition.

If you accept work as a tourist this is illegal and the employer would be knowingly hiring you as an illegal worker.

If you did accept an offer to work on a 12 month visa and then leave after 5 months and remain in Korea, you would not be able to get other work in Korea again until the 12 month period finished unless you negotiated a special visa release with your employer and sought immigration approval for changing jobs.
