Extra Allowances
Some contracts do offer a few extra allowances to help you with resettling in a new country. Extra allowances are not covered in the employment law and are not mandatory. An employer usually puts them into a contract as a gesture of goodwill.

Allowances we have seen in contracts include:
  • Resettlement allowance of between 200-250, 000 won
  • Visa allowance of 50, 000 won
  • Insurance allowance (if the teacher is paying for 100% their own insurance)
  • Housing allowance (if the teacher is already in their own paid housing)
Please note that any allowance is given in good faith as an extra to the employment contract and if you do leave your job early it will be the employers expectation that you refund this to the school.
